Helping To Develop Tomorrow's Leaders Today
COMTO aims to provide greater support and facilitate access to business opportunities within the transportation industry for DBE firms, and promote the benefits of transportation and career opportunities within the industry to minorities and grassroots organizations.
TEA-21: Transportation Equity Act of the 21st Century

HISTORY
Many Chicagoans in the transportation industry were introduced to COMTO  during the Region IV Conference hosted at the Chicago Conrad Hilton Hotel in May 1981.  Shortly thereafter, the Chicago Chapter was created.  Interests quickly spread throughout the Chicago transportation industry and membership rapidly grew from twelve chartered members during the late 1980s to early 1990s.  During that time, the chapter garnered national recognition by serving nationally on several Board Committees.  Also Chicago members received national recognition by winning several prestigious COMTO awards such as the Thomas G. Newsome Scholarship and the Founder Award.  In 1985, the Chapter won the coveted Chapter of the Year award, subsequently increasing its visibility within the city of Chicago and COMTO nationally.
